Fun in the backyard!

This weekend had been rather gloomy. On saturday, Dad got up super early and dragged me out of my condo. He brought me downstairs and stuck me in the kitchen. Then he left! I thought he had woken me up early to play, but I was wrong. Eventually Mom came downstairs, but then she left too.
All this meant that I wasn't expecting much from today. Yet again, Dad dragged me out early but at least this time he gave me free range downstairs. I curled up on the couch to take a nap. Then Mom and Dad decided to lock me in the kitchen. They left and I curled up sadly all alone yet again. All of a sudden, they were home! And Dad ran into the kitchen, put on my leash and took me outside. As I sniffed around the perimeter of my house (to make sure all was well), Dad dragged me around the corner. I saw the neighbors who are very good friends of mine-they always give me belly rubs! Then I saw Max! He belongs to the neighbors. Max is 5 months old but he is HUGE! He is a Great Dane puppy.  I barked at him and sniffed! Dad suggested that we go play in the backyard and Max's boy said yes! Max and I went into the back and our leashes were taken off. We had so much fun! First I chased Max around the backyard (he was a little scared of me). But then he started chasing me! Then he ran over me and whomped me with his paw! (That is my favorite thing! My bff Rigby does that too! He whomps me and then I wiggle out and jump on him!). I think I stepped on Max's ear though while we were playing, cause it got scratched up and was bleeding. He didn't care but his boy took him home to clean him up. I felt bad cause I hadn't done it on purpose. I hope they let me play with him again. Mom took some movies (of course!).

Dad?

I think Dad might be back! I heard some noise last night and then I heard a LOT of snoring! This morning Mom dragged me downstairs very quickly so I couldn't sniff around. But downstairs there were suitcases and they smelled like Dad!

Still alone... all alone

Still no Dad. I wonder what Mom did to him? Every morning I get up and search for him but so far I haven't found him. His car is outside but he is not here at all. Yesterday Mom had some friends over (that was surprising cause usuallly it is Dad's friends who ae here-he has a LOT more than Mom). Her friends were nice and I tried to be on my best behavior. Then Grandpa came over for dinner, which was exciting!
Today Mom and I had a quiet day. She left me all alone in the morning but then came home and  we lounged on the couch together.I snoozed while she watched tv. Not a bad day except for it being Dadless.

Still an Orphan

I still can't find Dad. It is very sad to be an orphan at so young an age. Yesterday, I even looked in the backyard to see if he was hiding there. Instead I found some frozen compost which although it was fun to play with, did not replace Dad. Then I saw Mom with her coat on, her keys and my leash. Perhaps we're going to find Dad I thought. I ran over to let Mom hook my leash up. We got in the car and drove. We stopped at a house and I sniffed around and got all excited cause it was Grandpa's house! He opened the door and I got to say hello! Mom wouldn't let me stay and play cause she is mean. We got back in the car and drove some more. When we got out of the car, I realized that we were at Belly Rub Central (aka the Library where Mom works!). I was very excited and wondered which of my friends would be there. We went inside and I saw Grace! I was very excited and I ran over to bounce all over her! Grace gave me a big biscuit (not like the tiny ones that Mom buys for me ). I saw my Aunt Joan (who had baby carrots for me!), Gary, Rita B., Theresa, Evelyn, Lori and Jason. I got a lot of belly rubs (it's a law that I must get a certain amount to keep my energy levels up). Mom and I left and went home.
Mom was watching movies so I lay on the couch and took a snooze. All of a sudden there was a knock on the door! Maybe it's Dad I thought as I flew off the couch and rushed to the door. It wasn't Dad but it was close. It was my Grandpere! I got some more belly rubs, but he didn't stay long. Then I discovered that Mom had sewed up all my toys while I was sleeping! That was awesome, so I immediately chewed open 3 and pulled all the stuffing out. Yesterday would have been the best day ever if only Dad were there!

Detective Mecki on the job

Something very worrisome and strange has happened! Dad is missing! I've covered the whole house, sniffing and snuffing and I can't find him anywhere! I looked outside and his car is here but he is not! I've tried discussing this with Mom but she doesn't seem worried at all. In fact she seems overly calm and relaxed about it! Last night I cried myself to sleep cause I miss Dad so much (and it is so quiet at night without him snoring and turning over and over in bed). Mom won't help me look for him at all! It is very sad for a young pup to have his Dad missing. I need to get into the backyard to see if there are any clues there!

When is a penguin like a wire hair dachshund?

Sidney Crosby is a hockey player for the Pittsburgh Penguins. You would think that penguins and wire hair dachshunds might not have anything in common. But you would be wrong. We are both used to getting concussions!
Last night Mom took off her shoes again and I was forced to nibble yet again on her toes cause they were in my socks! And I wasn't satisfied with that! When she walked around, I pounced on her feet! It was fun! But then it all went bad. Mom and Dad grabbed me and took off my collar. Oh no I thought, this cannot be good. They dragged me into the bathroom and gave me a bath! It was awful (in fact much worse than usual as Mom insisted to sticking a machine that blew hot air all over me). When they let me me out I ran around and threw myself all over the carpet. I ran into the living room and turned around so that I could run full steam down the hallway. I like to run and then hurl myself onto the floor and slide for a while. It helps to dry off the ears. Unfortunately I misjudged how much space I had. I ran really fast, threw myself on the floor and slid right into the wall. There was a large thud. Mom and Dad looked worried.  Fortunately my head is very hard so I only gave myself a small concussion.

Never eat socks that have feet in them!

Last night I was very hungry as I had ignored my food all day. I waited for Mom and Dad to come home and then I ate breakfast while they ate dinner! Afterwards we went into the living room to relax. Mom took off her shoes. I was mesmerized by her socks. While she sat there, I quietly inched closer and closer. I checked to make sure she wasn't watching. Then I pounced and chomped on the end of her sock and pulled! Mom was very surprised! She told me that I was not allowed to eat socks especially NOT socks that are still attached to people! But socks are so tasty! And Dad played a song for me that was called "I'm a dog and I love socks!" so obviously socks are meant to be eaten!

This is the song-you can see how happy socks make dogs! Why deny us? Mom said that I should have learned from my last sock adventure. That was when I swiped a sock out of the laundry basket. It was a sock that Mom had worn in France and it was super tasty. It did not really agree with me though, and a week later it came back up. Since then Mom has tried to hide the socks from me.

Fun with Mom in the SNOW!

This morning Dad left early, then Grandpere left. I was worried that Mom would leave too cause I had heard her talking to Dad about going somewhere with him. Mom decided to stay home and have fun with me! Cause I am a super fun pup! We went into the backyard and she helped me make some dachshund race tracks! Then she threw some snowballs and I went to fetch them, but I couldn't find them! The best thing was sticking my snout into the snow! And eating snowballs! Mom took some photos!
 Running down the straightaway!
What happens when  one sticks one's snout into snow!
 Snowpants!

 Working on a curve

Snow Day!!!!!!

We got snow! Mom said this is what I would look like if I was sitting in the snow! It was high (at least for me as I have very small legs). She let me play in the snow but it was a little too high for me to get to! Of course she took some movies!

Then Mom went to work. Later Dad and I took a ride to Belly Rub Central (aka the library where Mom works). My bff Grace wasn't there, but I got some belly rubs from Aunt Carol and Gary!

Recovering

Mom is home sick today and is keeping me company. That is good cause I am still recovering from last nights battle of the HUGE kong. It's the kong that Grandma bought for her big dog Mollie, but she gave it to me at christmas by mistake. I love it but it is exhausting! Last night Mom stuck a dried chicken breast in it and gave it to me. I battled that kong for 2 hours! Finally I gave up and jumped onto Mom's lap with it. Mom looked at me horrified! My eyes were glazed over, my beard was totally soaked with drool and the kong was FILLED with drool. I couldn't stop my mouth from chewing! There was nothing to chew on yet my mouth kept making chewing motions! Mom managed to get out the rest of the chicken breast (coated in drool!!!!!!) and gave it to me. Since my mouth was still chewing it was easily taken care off. Mom decided that I needed to go to bed and rest. This morning my mouth was still tired so I haven't eaten my breakfast yet.

A 2 grandpa day!

Today was a good day! I got to see both my Grandpere and my Grandpa! Plus Mom gave me some chicken with my kibble for dinner (mostly cause I was very good and did not try to eat the 5 layer dip or the meatball parm heroes). Then after dinner she gave me the HUGE kong from Grandma with some dried chicken breast in it. This is frustrating as I have only gotten 1 piece out and I have been jumping and barking at it for 1 hour already!

A big surprise

Last night Mom and Dad decided to eat in the living room. I thought that was a great idea-cause I like a change of pace. Dad put my bowl of kibble on the floor and gave Mom her bowl of spaghetti. I sniffed my kibble-not so exciting. Then I smelled Mom and Dad's spaghetti-much tastier. I sat and looked at them and plotted. When they seemed suitably relaxed, I lept onto Mom's lap and stuck my snout in her bowl! Mom was horrified and Dad yelled at me. But it was worth it! That little bit of spaghetti was tasty!

Poor sick Dad

Last night Dad was not feeling well. He put me in the kitchen and went upstairs to bed really early!I was left all alone in the kitchen. I sat there and pondered where to lie down. I have 3 spots that I sleep in. One is by the gate/pantry-so I can see whoever is in the living room, one is in front of the refridgerator (it is warm and toasty) and one is in the corner blocked in by the chair and my crate under the kitchen table. I decided to lie down in front of the fridge and wait for Mom to come home. I waited forever. Finally I took a nap. It was very windy out so it was hard to sleep with all that noise. It was so noisy that I almost didn't hear Mom at the door. I was excited to see Mom, but I was quiet about it cause I didn't want to disturb Dad. Then I heard some weird noises and I started barking. Mom took me outside so I wouldn't wake up Dad. I barked at everything outside too! Then we came inside and went up to bed. I felt bad for Dad being that he was not feeling well and I was not in the bed to keep him warm. I lay in my crate and whimpered and sighed for a while until Mom yelled at me to go to bed. In the morning, Dad woke up early and got up to take me downstairs. It was really early so I really didn't want to get up, but I decided to humor him.Now we are spending the day together as he called in sick.
