Eating with Dad

It's always good when Mom goes to work and Dad stays home. I get to snuggle with Dad and he usually gives me MUCH better food. Yesterday for instance, Dad and Grandpere were eating pie (which I really would have enjoyed)  and I got a BUNCH of turkey! Mom only gives me sweet potato, which I do enjoy, but turkey is much much better. The only problem was that it gave me a bit of a tummy ache, so later that night I had to lie on the couch by Mom so that she could rub my belly while I whimpered sadly.

Sneaker Time

Yesterday morning Mom let me go outside and play in the backyard. I love running around the backyard and barking at the people walking by. Yesterday was made even more fun by the fact that Dad had been considerate enough to leave a pair of sneakers outside for me to play with. I grabbed a sneaker and ran around the yard like a crazy dog. Eventually I was lured inside by a treat. Mom was very busy in the kitchen and I could smell all kinds of good things, but I was a little stressed by the fact that the oven was on and I would have to be on the lookout for smoke. Dad eventually showed up and started peeling something called turnips. A piece dropped on the floor but it did not smell or taste good so I left it. What was weird though is later Dad came back and started smashing up the turnip which had cooked-he added butter and cream and pieces flew all over the place as he mashed it. I tasted some again and it was much better. Dad is a good cook! Finally the company had all arrived and it was time to eat (but a lot earlier than I usually eat). We went into the living room and I got to eat too. Mom gave me some sweet potato (she cooked a whole one just for me), some shredded turkey and , best of all, some bacon! Real bacon, not the fake "doggy" bacon that Dad buys me. All in all, it was a very tasty day.

Just doing my job

In case you don't know, my Dad is a volunteer firefighter. I'm a junior firefighter and I take my job VERY seriously. Dad says that I am better than a fire alarm. When they use the fire pit outside, I get very upset cause they never put a bucket of water next to it. I usually hide by the kitchen door.  On Saturday, Mom decided to bake some cookies. She put them in the oven and then she went out to get bagels. Well, the parchment paper started smoking and her cookies started burning. Smoke makes me very nervous. I started  howling and barking to get Dad's attention! The smoke alarm didn't even go off, but I was on the job. I barked and howled and made such a fuss that Dad came downstairs. He took Mom's cookies out of the oven and put them outside, and left the door open so the smoke would clear. Then he let me come upstairs with him to the non-smoky area. When Mom came home she was very confused as to why her cookies were sitting outside. I came down to show her all the burnt bits but she wouldn't let me eat any! She did give me a dog biscuit for my good fire alarm skills.

A howl a day...

Today was a great day! Mom came into the kitchen with her coat on and attached my leash. I noticed that she had her keys in her hand. I know what that means-A ride in the car! When Mom opened the door, I pulled her outside and around the corner to the garage. Then I had to wait for her to put me in the car. Finally we were off. I whimpered excitedly hoping we were going somewhere good. We parked and I jumped out. We are at the bank. We went into the bank which has really good acoustics, so I started to howl. I'm not sure that all the employees appreciated my singing but the echoes were impressive. Mom gave me a dog biscuit to shut me up. I do like a bank that cares about their 4 legged customers!
We got back in the car and drove some more. This time we got out at the library! I love the library! I got to see all my friends: Gary, Vito, Elaine, Theresa, Mela, Angela (who has still not sucumbed to my extreme cuteness), Peggy (who pets me even though she is a cat person), Diane Z, Lori, and of course my bestest friend (the sister of my bff, Rigby!) GRACE! I got a lot of belly rubs (which are more ticklish now that they shaved my belly!). All in all, this is an excellent day!

My life as a pile of leaves

Last night Mom took me out for a walk. She wanted it to be a fast walk as she was cold. I however am a winter dog! I love the cold! Plus there were a lot of leaf piles and I love leaf piles! Everytime we came to one, I hurled myself onto it and rolled around like a crazy dog. When I got up, there were tons of leaves attached to me. I did this 4 times which made Mom say that I looked like a walking leaf pile. She tried to pull some off me but I like to keep a few around to snack on later when I'm in the house. When we got home, I heard Dad upstairs and ran up the stairs before Mom could grab me. Dad told Mom to de-leaf me before I got into the bed. Mom found a leaf under my ear (I had been saving that one). Mom said she should bring the camera on walks and take photos of me wearing my fall fashion.

An exhausting weekend

This weekend was very exhausting for me! First of all on Saturday, Mom sewed up all 10 of my injured stuffed toys. Then (silly Mom) she put them all down on the floor for me. I was SO happy. But  then I went on a murderous rampage. There was carnage. Within 10 minutes the floor was covered in white stuffing, plastic squeaker pieces were everywhere and I had devoured 2 tentacles and about a pound of fabric. 6 toys were eviserated. 4 were so badly destroyed that Mom could not save them at all and they went in the garbage without me being able to eat them all up. I think Mom could have fixed the octopus but she didn't seem to care. In fact, she took the other 4 away from me. I was forced to lie on the ground and whine sadly for my lost tennis ball located under the couch.
Sunday was no better. Dad took me out for a walk and then we got in the car! I love going for rides in the car! We went to a pet store-the land of tasty smells and sometimes other animals. Sadly though, we went into the bad part. Where they stick you on a cold table and remove huge amounts of fur from your tender nether regions! Yup, they shaved my bottom! And then they did my belly! Now you can see my bellybutton! I'll probably freeze to death this winter with all this fur missing! I know it was all Mom's idea!

No one tucked me in

Well last night was much better. Mom came to her senses and let me sleep in the bed. She refused to move from my spot though and I was forced to wander around the bed looking for the best place to sleep. She didn't tuck me in either, like Dad does.
I started off at the end of the bed, but got a bit cold. When Mom got up to get some water, I scooted over to MY spot (the most comfortable spot and prewarmed by Mom). Mom came back and scooted me out of the way. I lay by her for a while but then moved again. She was snoring way too much. Finally by morning I ended up in the perfect spot/position for ultimate snoozing.

So alone

Yesterday I was so alone. Mom went out, then went upstairs without even bringing me with her. Then she came down, walked me and took off. I saw her again briefly at dinner. Then she left and didn't return until hours later. This made me sad, bored, lonely and angry. When she finally came home, she brought my dinner into the living room. I ate quickly then sat in front of Mom and barked. When she got up, I bit her pants and bumped the back of her leg. Take that, I thought-you left me alone all day and now you refuse to play with me! Mom tricked me onto the couch with the fake promise of a fake snack. Betrayed I thought. Then she put my leash on and brought me outside. I was full of energy and just wanted to run and let out my inner wolf. I ran in circles around Mom. Mom sighed and dragged me back inside. We went into the kitchen and she grabbed a handfull of cookies. I ran up the stairs cause I was hoping she'd give me a whole cookie for good behavior. But no, she only gave me a piece and locked me in my condo.
Today has been no better. There is no late morning visit from Dad. I don't know where he is. Mom came home at lunch at gave me some cheese. I accepted her peace offering and did not try to knock her over. Maybe tonight we'll play.

Trespassers!

Last night Mom took me out for a walk. I was hoping to take the route that involves the acorn tree. I enjoy sniffing and sampling the wide variety of acorns that are scattered all over the ground. Plus I've noticed that squirrels seem to hang out there and it's my goal to catch one. Sadly Mom is so slow that I have yet to get within playing distance.
As soon as we walked out the door, I smelled something. Something is not right, I thought. Some trespasser has been running all over the front lawn without my permission! I ran around tracking the steps of this rude animal. I tried to tell Mom what it was, but she is unable to understand me. I pulled her down the sidewalk trying to figure out where it had gone. Then I tried to pull her under the bushes into the neighbors side yard but she forced me to turn around and go home. That annoyed me, so in revenge I whined for a while after eating my cookie in my condo.

Old enough to go somewhere on my own.

Mom said that in about 1 month I will be going on an adventure. She won't tell me where, but she said I'll be having a sleepover somewhere-without her and Dad.I guess when you are 3, you are old enough to go somewhere on your own. I told her she should write up some things about me to give whoever is watching me a head's up. Here it is:

TOP 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ME! (MECKI TESSIER)
First a short biography: I am an extremely quiet (never a bark out of me!), non bouncy, introverted pup. I never bother anyone…. (Mom will tell you these are all lies, but don’t believe her).
10. I have no dew claws! So no worries there. Not quite sure what happened to them, Mom won’t say.
9.   Commands I know but may or may not obey (depending on my mood and the treat being offered): sit, down, bang, rollover, fetch, bring, drop, give, come, inside, eat your food.
8.   I am used to being stepped on. I may let out a squeak, but I am a stoic German dog and will walk it off. The same goes for concussions.
7.   Mom likes to take me on Bataan Death March walks. However, I do NOT need that much exercise and will hurl myself down of the grass and roll around if forced to walk too far.
6.   I am allergic to dog food. However I will accept the following items as a replacement: red apples (never green), banana, baby carrots, cheese of any variety, paper, tissues, socks, anything you are eating.
5.  I will go in the hated crate if you give me a treat. I will however whine and whimper softly under my breath, so that you will feel bad and let me sleep in my rightful spot on your pillow.
4.  When you lock me in the land of NO and try to leave, I will run after you and jump up, just hitting you in the back of your knee causing it to collapse. My hope is that you will fall on the floor in the kitchen and hang out with me.
3.  I prefer to have company when eating. I can tell the difference between someone just sitting there, and someone actually eating.  Once you start eating and I realize I am not getting any of your food (which is rude, you should always share), I will grudgingly start eating my food.
2.   I will only climb stairs when you don’t want me to. If you are not looking, I will run swiftly up the stairs. If you want me to go upstairs I will collapse on the floor as I am a small dog and stairs are VERY hard for me.
1.    I am very fast/agile when I don’t want to be caught. Mom likes to keep me on a leash in order to catch me quickly.  Oh, and don’t be disturbed when I lie down in an “S” shape, it very comfortable!
