Dazed and Confused

Yesterday Grandma came over with AT. I thought he was gone forever so I gave him a ton of licks to welcome him back. Then Grandma sat on the couch and I thought to myself, "hey! why shouldn't I join her?" So I jumped up on the couch with one leap. Mom and Grandma were very impressed. Then I jumped all over Grandma and managed to fall off the couch. Mom put me in the kitchen to calm me down. That night I was back in AT's room to sleep. That was fun but I whimpered a bit just to pass time until I fell asleep. This morning, Mom let me out and I grabbed the red heart ball off the floor and ran into Dad's room. Mom took me downstairs but she didn't spend a lot of time with me. I was mad so I refused to eat breakfast. Mom stuck me upstairs in my play area with my food. I was sad so I howled and barked! Then she came home! We went downstairs and played. I was still annoyed though and had been plotting how to show my disgust. She put my leash on and then the evil phone rang! I barked cause I hate the phone-it takes away from time better spent petting me! While she was on the phone, I quietly gnawed through my leash. She hung up and grabbed my leash, but not me! I made her chase me around for a while. But Mom is sneaky and she had another leash! So I still had to go outside on a walk. We played a little more and then she put me back upstairs. I can't wait until Dad gets home!

Watchdog

This morning I woke up in Mom and Dad's room and there was no AT around. I wonder why people keep disappearing? Mom took me out for my morning walk and the stupid black dog that runs around the neighborhood was outside sniffing MY sunflower plant! I started growling and barking and tried to go get him but got caught up on a rose bush. Mom was worried that I might have hurt myself and made me roll over so she could see my tummy. I guess it looked okay cause she gave me a belly rub! My food has a new home now. It's in a big box with dogs on it in the kitchen.

Prisoner of Love

Yesterday Dad had a big party for all his Dr. Who friends. I got to go outside and meet them. A couple of people gave me bellyrubs which was awesome! When Mom put me in my crate, I ran right out cause I wanted more bellyrubs. She put me back in though. In the middle of the night, AT's really big (almost as big as him) Winnie-the -Pooh stuffed animal dressed as a prisoner wearing a shirt that says "Prisoner of Love" fell out of his bed right in front of my crate and scared me. This morning when Mom let me out, I ran over to W-T-P and grabbed him by the ball and chain and tried to drag him into Dad's room. I wasn't very hungry this morning and left half my food in the bowl, but Mom let me finish it up at lunch. Alec and Mr. B came over and I was very excited! I miss Dad though. I guess that I should be wearing the "prisoner of love" shirt. Mom said she made me a tie-dyed t-shirt that I can wear. She said she would take a photo and I could post it on my blog.

A Hard Day's Night

Well when Mom put me in my crate last night I fell asleep right away. I was really tired from all that fun. This morning I ran right out of my crate into Dad's room. I'm practicing my jumping (I can jump on the couch now!) so that I can jump onto the bed and play with Dad. The bed is a little higher though, but I think that if I start running really fast from AT's room, I might be able to leap onto the bed. Jeanette left today-I'm going to miss her as she had really tasty toes and liked to howl along with me. Mom let me play a bit outside today but then she put me upstairs. I howled because I can hear a lot of people outside and I could get a lot of bellyrubs if Mom would let me down!

A change of venue

Last night when Mom put me to bed, she didn't bring me into her room. Instead, my crate was in AT's room! I was kinda confused but I figured that I'd just go along with it. This morning when Mom let me out, I was feeling kinda confused due to the new surroundings, so I ran out, bit AT's remote control dragonfly on the wings and then ran back to my crate (where I picked up my toy without Mom seeing). Then I ran into Dad's room and gave him my toy. Later than morning Mom and Jeanette took me to Sands Point Preserve! That place is fun although Mom won't let me eat the mussels. Mom said that my friend Rigby had lost a tennis ball there, so I ran around on the beach looking for it. Then Jeanette was in the water and I decided I wasn't as afraid so I stuck my feet in the water but still ran away when the waves came. When we got home I took a nap cause I was exhausted. Later I played with AT and Mr. B.  Dad let me outside in the backyard without my stake and leash cause we got a fence and they think I can't escape! Then I was minding my own business when Dad put the pool upsidedown on me! I ran around under the pool and moved it around on the lawn, but stopped before Mom could see. It was a long day but I had a lot of fun. I'm off to bed in my new location!

I believe I can fly!!!

Today was a very exciting day although it started out sadly. I got up this morning and ran to greet Dad, then I looked for AT but he wasn't there! People keep disappearing! Mom sewed up my bobo's though so that was good. Mom put me up in my play area. When she brought me back down there was someone new to meet-Jeanette! I jumped around and licked her toes with happiness and she petted me. Mom and Jeanette played with me for a while and then I saw AT and Grandma at the door-and I think that Grandma had another toy for me. We went for walks and then Dad came home and Mom let me run outside in the backyard without a leash until AT threw my squeaky bone in the asparagus and I chased after it. Later AT and Jeanette were sitting on the couch and I wanted to join them. So I casually walked around , backed up to the proper distance and made a flying leap at the couch. I made it! Everyone was totally amazed! I knew I could do it! Later Mom , Dad, AT, Jeanette and Mr. B were playing Apples to Apples. Mom said that one of the sets could have been mine. The word was CHEWY and the choices were: Raisins, Legs, Life Jackets and My Stuffed Animals.  All those things do sound very chewy, but I would have picked My Stuffed Animals!

Trash Talking Carrots

Yesterday at lunch Mom put 3 carrots in my bowl. When she wasn't looking, one of them growled at me! Well I won't let a mere carrot growl at me! So I pounced and grabbed a carrot out of the bowl and flung it in the air. Then I ran around the kitchen biting and flinging the carrot. Finally I ate it. That taught the carrot a lesson and I did the same thing to the other two carrots. You have to teach them who the boss is. Mom still hasn't sewn up my bobos so I'm forced to play with my other toys that aren't as soft and tasty. Mom took me upstairs and left me a kong filled with peanut butter-when I ate all the peanut butter, I found a biscuit! That was fun. Later when Mom came home, I was in the kitchen cause I had been fresh to Dad. When I heard Mom at the door, I jumped up and down in front of the door and wouldn't let  her in.

Back to work

This morning I woke up ready to go. I waited patiently for Mom to let me out of my crate. Then I ran around and woke up Dad. Then I turned around and saw AT sleeping! So I jumped all over him and licked him until he woke up, then I tickled him until he laughed. Last night I chewed holes in three of my toys. I wonder when Mom will fix them?

Walking a wet wolf

I just went for a walk with Mom. I was feeling very ferocious so I chewed on my leash and lay down every five minutes in the grass to roll.  We got to the corner and it started pouring. I hate water so I dragged Mom down the block so we could go home. When we got inside I was still full of energy so I shook the excess water off and then rolled all over the kitchen floor while Mom ran around closing windows. Then when she came back in-I barked and attacked her shirt! Mom said I was bad and left the kitchen. Wolf triumphs over human again!

No Dad

This morning I got out of my crate and ran around the bed to say hi to Dad. When I jumped up to look in the bed he wasn't there! Dad was missing!I was worried and whined to get Mom's attention. But she just picked me up and brought me downstairs. I didnt'want to eat cause I missed Dad so I lay on the floor by the gate and listened for him. Mom sat by my food bowl but I didn't budge. Suddenly I heard a noise and looked up. It was Dad! I got super excited and wiggled around. I also got hungry so I ran to eat my food.

6 pack to go and a lesson in manners

I was in the kitchen with Mom eating my dinner while she petted me. Everything was perfect. I had food, attention, a massage... But then Mom got up and opened the kitchen door. I thought we were going outside so I got all excited. But Mom wouldn't let me out! I stuck my nose between the door but she pushed it back in and went outside. Leaving me all alone. So I lay by the door and waited and waited and waited. After waiting forever, I got annoyed at being left all alone. I noticed that Dad had left a box of beer on the bottom shelf so I grabbed the box and dragged it off the shelf and into the middle of the kitchen floor. Then I proceeded to rip and shred the box. I was mad! All of a sudden the kitchen door opened and in walked Mom and Dad! Mom said I was a little bugger and Dad rescued his beer.Later AT and Grandma came in with excellent manners in that they had brought me TOYS! All guests should come over with a toy-it is very polite. Good boy  and good Grandma I thought-they are very well behaved. So I jumped around and licked them and showed my appreciation. You should always say thank you for gifts!

2 x's as much work in the morning

Now that AT is here, I have twice as much work in the morning! This morning Mom let me out and I ran around to wake up Dad. I didn't even notice that AT was sleeping in our room cause the air conditioner was on. Mom kept pointing somewhere, but I ignored her. Then suddenly I smelled AT! I climed on his mattress and licked his toes-nothing. So I ran up and licked his neck-still nothing. Then I sat on his head and whacked him my tail. Finally! He lifted his head up and looked at me and then put his head down and went back to sleep. He's tough to wake up! So I went back to say hello to Dad again. Later Mom and Andre came home with friends-April and Ava who is almost 2! I got to jump around and play with her. Then Mr. B came over! Mom put me back upstairs with my kong which had peanut butter and a cracker!

Before and After

On the left you can see what my elephant looked like when it was brand spankin'new. Then on the right....what 5 months of chewing and slobbering can do. I ate his ears, one leg, the trunk and the tail. You can barely see it but a soda bottle top is holding him up.  I consider it a work in progress. If only Mom would keep up with the repairs.
These are my other toys (or at least the surviving ones). The brown ball on the top used to be a monkey face with two eyes, big monkey lips and ears. My blue bobo might be nearing the end.  I ate his tail, his ears, and his legs. The big pink bobo is also missing all its appendages. Appendages are super tasty! Then my rope toy. Mom has rebraided it several times to make it last longer. She can't do that anymore cause I ate half of it.
AT is here now. I have two people to climb and jump on!
This is when Dad cleaned my ears. Usually afterwards, I lie on the floor and bang my head on it but I decded not to give him the pleasure this time.

I HATE water!

Mom has been really mean lately. She knows how much I hate water. So she is ruining my game where I sit and bark and snap at her by spraying me with water! I keep trying to attack and eat that spray bottle but it is just out of my reach! Plus yesterday she gave me a piece of peach to eat-which I didn't eat cause it didn't taste good. Then she gave me some cheddar cheese which was very yummy. This video is when Dad stuck me in the pool.

Beware of Pickpockets

Last night it was very stormy out-a very blustery night with thunder and lightning and rain. Mom and Dad sat on the floor and played with me. I practiced my free running by climbing on them , jumping off, jumping over, tunneling under Dad's shirt, walking on Mom's back.... We had a lot of fun. When it was done, Dad got up and sat back on the couch. Mom was sitting on the floor with me. I was lying on the floor trying to cool down when I spied something that looked tasty on the floor. I looked around to make sure no one else had noticed it and would try to beat me to it. I got up and had a shake, then nonchalantly wandered over to it (wishing I could whistle in an "I'm not up to anything " manner), and grabbed up Dad's wallet. No one  was looking! It was my lucky break! I casually sauntered past Mom, jauntily trotting along into the kitchen. Mom saw me with the wallet in my mouth and started laughing. I heard her ask Dad if he knew where his wallet was. I stopped to watch and see what would happen. Dad looked at me. Then he got up from the couch and chased me into the kitchen, then out to the living room. I let him corner me behind the couch finally and he got his wallet back. Mom was still laughing! The way I saw it was that Dad had grabbed me earlier and cleaned my ears (which were perfectly happy being dirty!) so he owed me something for not nibbling on him! A few bucks could buy a new toy or some more snacks!
This morning when Mom brought me downstairs, she was very mean, She was playing with the doorbell-trying out different sounds. I thought that someone was at the door! So I howled and barked cause I thought it might be my grandpa. Then I realized it was just Mom. I barked at her and then she sewed up my big pink bobo which made me happy. She said that she would go out and buy me a new harness today as mine broke last night. She doesn't like to walk me with my leash attached to the collar cause I pull too much and she thinks I'll hurt my throat and neck.

Tunneling

This morning Mom was sitting on the kitchen floor with me while I ate my breakfast. She was wearing her red fuzzy bathrobe. After I ate, I took my usual stroll around the kitchen whilst burping. As I walked by her foot, I noticed that there was a hole between her leg and the bathrobe. I stuck my nose in to investigate. It looked like a tunnel so I decided to follow it. I let my nose do the leading and followed the tunnel all the way to Mom's back. Then I lay down in the tunnel and made snorting noises that made Mom laugh, so I rolled on my back so she could give me a belly rub.Eventually Mom stood up and the tunnel disappeared. That made me sad so I started barking at her. But then I heard a noise that sounded like Dad! So I left Mom to run over to the gate and wiggle with joy when Dad appeared!!!!! Dad went outside and Mom brought me outside-I thought that meant that I was going for a ride with Dad. I ran over and sat by the car so that Mom could put me in. But she didn't and Dad got in and went away.Mom took me inside and put me in my play area with some fresh water and a carrot and a biscuit.

The demise of a hedgehog

Mom had stolen both my hedgehogs. I had eaten their noses and pulled out some stuffing to eat so she took them away. She sewed them all up and returned them to my play area and I was very excited to have more toys to play with. Then I discovered her trick. I was eating the face off one of the hedgehogs looking for the tasty white filling-but there wasn't any there! She had stuffed my hedgehog with newspaper! That was completely unacceptable! So I emptied his body of all the newspaper and shredded it! When she came up at lunch to walk me, she noticed that one hedgehog was very flat-like roadkill. I guess she knew I figured out her trick, cause she left him in my play area. We went out for a walk and I ran around barking at the birds. When she brought me back up, she left some carrots in my waterbowl and gave me a biscuit, so I only barked and howled a little when she left. (I'm trying to get in touch with my inner wolf).

Weigh-In

This morning I woke up Dad the usual way. Then I practiced running into AT's room cause I heard Dad say that he was coming soon and I needed to practice the route.Mom weighed me this morning and I weigh 21.5 pounds! I'm getting big!

Dining Al Fresco

As usual, Mom gave me my  food and then disappeared. So I decided not to eat. When she came back in the kitchen I was ignoring my food bowl. Mom scooped me up and then scooped up my bowl. She took me outside and I got to eat outside! There were a lot of distractions: ants, bugs that could fly, people walking by,my chewing stick, my blue water bowl, my squeaky bone... but I managed to eat all my food. I ran around outside for a while, then Mom took me for a walk.
When we got back, I came inside and Mom put some yummy chicken in my kong. It took me 1/2 an hour but I managed to get it out. After that, Dad got down on the floor and played with me.Then I helped Dad with his new exercise program. I run around barking and he either tries to catch me or I chase him. It was exhausting so I went into the kitchen to lie down on the cool floor. Dad let me have some water even though it was after 8pm. I can't wait to go to bed!

Table for One

It's very lonely eating by oneself. Sometimes in the morning, Mom will move my bowl of food next to her so that I can eat while she does dishes. When she doesn't, I just look at my bowl sadly and lie down under the table. Then Mom will come and sit on the floor next to my bowl and I'll run over and eat happily. Dinner is much lonelier. Mom gives me my food and then she and Dad go hide in another room to eat. It's quite rude. They should let me in there to pick up whatever falls on the floor. I refuse to eat my food alone. So I wait for Mom or Dad to come back to the kitchen. Sometimes Mom will come in and play the food game with me. I sit with my nose touching the floor and she flicks kibble at me. When it comes close I eat it. She's very sneaky though, sometimes she flicks it not far from the bowl and then I end up moving closer. Sometimes she lets me eat out of her hand (but don't tell Dad!). Food just tastes better when you eat it with company.

Too much caffeine?

Last night I wasn't tired at all when Mom put me in my crate. I threw my new toy around and growled at it for a while when it tried to poke me. Then I dragged my towel around the crate for a while to get it perfect. This morning I stretched my way out of my crate, then ran and woke up Dad two times. The second time he had moved to the middle of the bed so I couldn't reach him. If Mom got me some stairs, I could run right up onto the bed and really give him a good licking. I think that  he'd go to work with a smile then.
Mom gave me some bacon this morning after I ate my breakfast but she made me really work for it. I had to shake , sit, lie down, sit, lie down, play dead and fetch, bring and drop my blue bobo a couple of times! I really should have gotten more bacon for all that work. Afterwards she brushed me-which I DON'T like! Then I watched as Mom sewed up my green dog and my monkey face toys. She gave them to me and I ripped them both open again in under 30 seconds. Mom took them away cause I was eating the soft white tasty stuffing inside. Mom said that if there was a contest for the fastest destruction of a chew toy that I would get first prize! Then she put me in my play area upstairs, but I saw her steal my two hedgehogs. I had chewed their noses off, maybe Mom will put some more yummy stuffing in and give them back to me.

2 new toys

Last night, Mom gave me a new toy. Actually first she hung it from a chair in the kitchen to taunt me, so I jumped around barking at it. It was a rope in a loop, the loop went through a piece of hard plastic, then through a ball with a knot at the end. Mom thought it would be perfect for me cause I love to chew on balls and rope. I faked her out though and chewed on the plastic until I started breaking pieces off. Then Mom was mean and took it away! I was mad at Mom and barked and nipped at her! Then when Dad took me for a walk and put me up in my crate there was a new toy in there too! So I guess Mom isn't that bad, but she's still not DAD!

Variety is the spice of life

Dad was upset because there are more snacks in the house for me than for him. I would gladly share my snacks with Dad cause sometimes he gives me some of his cheese! I've decided though that dog biscuits, heart cookies, apples, carrots and beggin' strips don't offer me enough variety snackwise. Mom and Dad are always eating food that smells really good!  So I decided to hunt for new things to eat. I would have to be quick and stealthy, cause Mom doesn't drop that much stuff on the floor and the new garbage can makes it too hard to open and get at the tasty food inside. When Mom took me outside to play I sampled some newly grown blades of grass and hunted down some ants (they could use a chocolate coating!). Then I noticed a dandelion puff cheekily waving at me-so I ran over, pounced and chomped it down. Later when Dad was unpacking groceries a beet leaf fell on the floor. No one noticed so I ran over and ate it. Then when Mom as washing dishes, she emptied out the drain of soapy blueberries and carrot bits. When she went to throw it out  (instead of giving it to me!! her starving puppy!) one lone blueberry fell on the floor and I ate it. This new variety of snacks gave me lots of energy! When Mom took me out for a walk, I dragged her across the street so I could say hello to my friend Chief. Then I dragged her around the block. I was mad when we came down our road cause she wouldn't let me go play with Molly. I was still rambunctious when we came inside and I ran around barking and nipping at her, so I was banished to the kitchen until I calmed down. I plotted how to appear calm and nonchalant until they let me out, then I ran around barking again!

My new job

Saturday morning Mom scooped me up before I could run around the bed and wake up Dad. Dad woke up later and was in a bad mood the whole day. Mom said that from now on I HAVE to run and wake up Dad so that he gets out of bed in the right mood.

Foiled in the morning!

I've been working on my morning routine for a while. It started off as me simply being happy about getting out of my crate and thanking Mom with many kisses. Then I bonded with Dad, my bestest buddy. So I changed the routine. I sat in my crate, anxiously waiting for Mom to open the door, then I shoot out like a greyhound and run around the bed to the other side where Daddy is. I jump up and hop my way along the side of the bed until I can lick and kiss Dad. Then Mom comes and scoops me up. Last month though, my other friend AT was here and I realized that I could run down the  hall into his room and lick him too! So I added that to the routine and all was well. Plus his carpet is really good for scratching my back! And Mom and I got some exercise running around the room. Well now the door is closed and I can't escape the bedroom. I blame Mom-she is pretty sneaky. I got back at her by barking and nipping at her while she was doing the dishes. Doesn't she know that I'm more important than the dishes? There is bacon to be handed out and toys to be sewn up!

Mecki's Tales: the daily ponderings of a smallish dog with a large bark and a propensity to belly rubs

Since I have a lot of free time while Mom and Dad are at work, I decided to start a blog.  Yesterday started out well. I was in the kitchen eating my bacon and playing with my bobo when Dad left. That made me sad. So I barked and howled for a while to fill up the emptiness in my heart. Later, Dad came home. That made me happy. I was lying on the kitchen floor under the ceiling fans trying to cool off. Dad came in, scooped me up and brought me outside. Maybe we're going for a ride I thought. I love to go in the car. But no, it turned into the worst day ever as Dad not only stuck me in the wading pool, but poured cold water all over me until I was all soggy and wet. I stood there looking sorrowfull. Then he took me out but ran away when I wanted to share the wet feeling with him.
Later Mom came home and made me go outside in the rain. Then she took me upstairs and put me in my crate with a snack. That didn't make up for all the horror of the day, so I ate the feet off my toy! Then I fell asleep.
